May was a busy month for the Girl Scouts!
Senior and Cadette troops organized a park cleanup and Ecopalooza on May 19th. The Service Unit then took 3rd place in Marching groups in the Boalsburg Fire Company Parade. Finally, our girls helped lay flowers on the graves of veterans in the Boalsburg Memorial Day Ceremony.
Memorial Day Ceremony
Members of Troops 40170, 40213, 40218, 40219, 40427, 40429, and 41123 met U.S. Senator Bob Casey, State Senator Jake Corman, and Centre County Commissioner Mike Pipe while participating in the Boalsburg Village Conservancy’s 154th Memorial Day Service. Nice job laying flowers on the veterans’ graves, girls!
Fire Company Parade
Service Unit 416 represented Girl Scouts and marched in the Boalsburg Fire Company Parade, winning 3rd prize for marching groups! Good job girls!
Ecopalooza
May 19th may have been overcast and misty, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of those who participated in the Fairbrook Park cleanup and Ecopalooza event led by Troops 41154/40218/41220! This event was the Take-Action service project which culminated the Senior Outdoor journey and Cadette counterpart.
Park cleanup included weeding the upper playground and using trash pickers to collect trash around the park. Trash pickers certainly made this fun!
Seniors then presented information on various environmental topics including recycling, wetland characteristics, and palm oil sustainability.
The trash monster joined us, telling that the average consumer uses 500 plastic bags in one year! Trash monster was a lot of fun! Thanks to Millbrook Marsh for the costume loan!
Participants were able to mark off several items on their Spring Outdoor Checklist while enjoying activities such as making and decorating t-shirt bags, creating nature art, making recycled material art, decorating nature journals, and the trash monster raced her mom in a trash sort and pick-up ‘relay’!
Make sure you are ready for your Summer Outdoor Challenge!
