We closed out the 2019 Girl Scout year with another packed fall camporee at Camp Golden Pond. Thank you again to the Cadettes from Troops 40065 and 40427 for planning and organizing our “Wonderful Wizarding World Weekend”.
Camporees are an opportunity for troops to meet other Girl Scout sisters, as well as to help build camping traditions in new and younger troops. Each camporee is unique (different structures, different organizers, etc) and requires an army of volunteers to successfully execute.
Fall Fun Day Camp – October 17 and 18
We are collaborating with Friends of Golden Pond and Service Unit 431 to offer another day camp at Camp Golden Pond. October 17 and 18 are State College Area School District in-service and conference days and what better way to spend them than at camp canoeing, hiking, and making s’mores.
Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors can attend one or both days of this drop-off event and will enjoy traditional Girl Scout camp activities. Since October is here, be sure to register. If you need assistance with car-pooling, please let us know.
Spring Camporee 2020
Our annual spring camporeee is scheduled for May 1 – 3. This camp is an unstructured event where troops can come to camp to just hang out, work on badge work, or whatever they need the time to do. As spring camporee is an unstructured event, girls will need to participate as a part of a troop and troops will need to function independently. Troops can partner together to help fulfill their first-aider and ratio requirements, but should make these arrangement with each other before registering.
We will make arrangement for canoeing and archery instructors. In the past we have also brought in the STEM mobile and groups like Trout Unlimited. If there is a group you want to see visit Spring Camp, please let us know.
As part of Spring Camporee, we run “Daisy Day”. Daisy Day is a day only event led by older girls designed to get introduce our littlest campers (and their leaders) to camp. We are looking for a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador troop who is willing to plan and execute this event.
Troops (or adults) interested in helping with this event should email spring-camp@statecollegegirlscouts.org.
Summer Camporee 2020
David Nicastro (summer camporee 2019) has agreed to run our program for Summer Camporee 2020 again. Summer camporee is two full days of structured camp and typically involves a badge program. For 2020, summer camporee will be on Father’s Day weekend (June 19-21) and will be a family friendly event.
If you are interested in helping make this camp a reality, please email summer-camp@statecollegegirlscouts.org.
Fall Camporee 2020
Finally, we have scheduled our annual fall camporee for Sep 11 – 13, 2020. This camp is traditionally a structured, themed camp planned by an older girl troop.
If you (or your troop) is interested in helping to make this camp happen, please email fall-camp@statecollegegirlscouts.org
Other Camporees
If your troop wants to plan a camp and invite other troops to participate, please let us know and we will support you. For example, Troop 40170 is planning a “Winter Mystery for Daisies and Brownies” for Dec 13-15. When you plan the camp, you set the rules (participation limits, levels, requirements, etc), budget, and registration fees.
Email camp@statecollegegirlscouts.org if you have an event you want to organize.
