Girl Scouts love to sing hiking songs, pack fun and tasty snacks, and hunt for sounds of animals and birds. Here’s what you need to know to become a Brownie hiker—get ready for adventure!
- Decide where to go
- Try out a hiking skill
- Pick the right gear
- Pack a snack for energy
- Go on your hike!
When I’ve earned this badge, I’ll know how to hit the trail for a hike.

Joscelyne Hauserman at Appalachian Outdoors did a great free workshop for us including hiking safety, trail signs, poisonous plants, and more. She even brought her guitar and sang with us. At another meeting our troop also decorated walking sticks (just large branches we found at camp) with fun duct tape and pipe cleaners. Our third meeting was a hike at Alan Seeger where we brought our walking sticks and each girl brought an item to mix in our bowl to make trail mix.
Also Millbrook Marsh has a program for this. http://www.crpr.org/Millbrook/Programs/Scouting.html
