The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission will be coming to Camp Golden Pond to teach youth the basics of ice fishing!
Learn the basic skills of ice fishing like rigging and using a tip-up, working a jigging rod, selecting bait and lures, and using an auger to bore your fishing hole. Information about basic ice safety is also included in this program, you and your family will have the opportunity to experience ice fishing first hand. The program is free and all equipment is provided. Those under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“Classroom” part of the course will run from 2:30 to 4PM in Legacy Lodge with ice fishing from 4-5PM on the ice.
Registration is limited and must be done in advance directly with the PA Fish & Boat Commission.
This is a free program offered by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission; however, we recommend participants bring a $4 cash donation to Friends of Golden Pond.
Participants should pack the following –
- Snacks
- Chair or 5 gallon bucket to sit on
- Thermos of hot cocoa
- Hand warmers
- Set of dry clothes
- Camera for photos to capture those great moments
All participants must be dressed appropriately for being out on the ice:
- Wear layers of warm clothing, preferably NOT cotton
- Long underwear
- Winter coat
- Winter hat
- Winter gloves
- Heavy socks
- Winter, waterproof boots
- Scarf
